HPG to focus on NAIA area as departures, arrivals increase for Christmas
Traffic enforcers will be focused on the roads leading to and from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to address the expected increase in arriving and departing passengers throughout the Christmas season, the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) said.
"We will be distributing our men in the NAIA area especially this season because a lot of our kababayan are expected to go back to celebrate Christmas," HPG Director Chief Superintendent Antonio N. Gardiola Jr. said.
This comes as the HPG expects a heavy volume of vehicles fetching and ferrying passengers headed to local and international destinations for their Christmas celebrations.
Aside from the NAIA area, Gardiola said the HPG — which previously manned EDSA chokepoints — will also man the Circumferential-5 (C5) Road and Commonwealth Avenue, two of the busiest areas during the season.
"We are still open to returning to EDSA but we are first concentrating on these three areas to train and integrate different enforcers there," he said.
"Traffic is already being felt not only in EDSA but also in major arteries. We are already beginning to feel the presence of people coming from the provinces," he added. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
