New Manila traffic enforcers undergo 'military-style' training

The first batch of trainees who will replace the 690 traffic enforcers sacked by Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada are undergoing a "military-style" training in preparation for their stints at the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau.

In a report by GMA News' Mark Zambrano on "24 Oras" on Friday, Sector 5 commander Chief Insp. Romeo Olidana said the level of training is necessary to for Manila traffic enforcers to regain the trust and respect of the public.

"Kailangan po maibabalik po yung respeto sa mga traffic enforcer natin, maging magalang sila, maayos ang pananamit nila at maganda ang prepareness nila, pati yung kanilang personalidad," Olidana said.

Recruits, who will now be paid P10,000 monthly instead of the previous P6,000, will undergo physical training and have their mental and psychological alertness honed from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day for two weeks, the report said.

They will also have classroom lectures to learn investigation techniques, rescue and first aid training, and advanced traffic management procedures.

While they complete their training, operatives from the Manila Police District's Traffic Enforcement Unit will handle traffic operations in the entire city of Manila.
