Human Rights Consciousness Week 2016 starts with fun run in QC
Various government units and partner organizations kicked off the beginning of the Human Rights Consciousness Week with a fun run at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City on Saturday.
"Sa atin po nagmumula ang karapatang pantao. Pero yung pagtrato natin sa isa't-isa ay reflective din po nung klase ng dignidad na binibigay natin sa kapwa natin," Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Commissioner Karen Gomez-Dumpit said during the event.

The Human Rights Consciousness Week celebration is pursuant to Republic Act 9201 otherwise known the National Human Rights Consciousness Week Act of 2002.
Under the act, government agencies and learning institutions must celebrate the week through "simple and appropriate ceremonies and activities to make the people aware of their basic human rights."
They must also "propagate, particularly among the students, a human rights culture that aims at sustainable development in the country."
Representatives from the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines also took part in the event. —Rie Takumi/ALG, GMA News
