Heroes’ cemetery briefly changed to Libingan ng mga Bayani at Isang Magnanakaw in Google Maps

The official name Libingan ng mga Bayani on Google Maps has been changed to Libingan ng mga Bayani at Isang Magnanakaw a day after the Supreme Court's ruling allowing the burial of late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. at the heroes' cemetery.

As of 10:16 a.m., Google has edited the Libingan map's name and took out the words "at Isang Magnanakaw."

Google's Map Maker showed that the change was requested by user "Anonymous0463."

The Map Maker noted that the "feature has undergone total 54 changes." Among the suggested names were Military Cemetery and Libingan ng mga Bayani at Isang Kawatan.

Reacting to the change made on the Libingan's name, Malacañang urged to change the name back to Libingan ng mga Bayani.

"Baguhin natin ulit. Ibalik natin sa original. Kung meron mang nakikinig ngayon at nagbabasa at meron kayong oras na baguhin iyon, baka pwede ibalik sa dati... I’m sure nang-aasar lang din ang naglagay noon eh," Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar told GMA News Online.

"Go forth and multiply. Well, it's a democracy. It's part of the vibrancy of this democracy. And Google is not a government entity so is Wikipedia, and they can do anything they want in social space," he added.

GMA News Online is also seeking a reaction from the Marcos family.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday voted 9-5-1 junking petitions against the burial of the former president at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

The high court found no grave abuse of discretion on the part of President Rodrigo Duterte in pushing for the burial of Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani because this was done in the exercise of his mandate under Article VII, Section 17 of the 1987 Constitution "to ensure the faithful execution of all laws."

It also said that there was no law barring the transfer of Marcos' remains to the Libingan ng mga Bayani and that Duterte was not bound by the 1992 agreement entered into by the Marcos family and then President Fidel Ramos to have the remains interred in Marcos' hometown of Batac, Ilocos Norte. —with Trisha Macas/ALG, GMA News
