The first alarm was raised at 3:20 a.m. after fire was reported at the Manggahan Compound, GMA News' Jay Sabale reported on Unang Balita.
Investigation shows that the fire started at the house of Eduardo Angeles, according to a Balitanghali report on Wednesday.
"Nagising na lang ako malaki na 'yung apoy sa terrace e. Ginising ko na 'yung mga anak ko, pinatalon ko na sa bintana,” Angeles said.
The fire reached Task Force Alpha at 4:20 a.m. since most of the houses razed were made of light materials.
The fire hydrant was also far from the site.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of fire and will conduct further investigation following Angeles’ claim that there was no electricity at the terrace.
But according to Superintendent Crispo Diaz, assistant regional director of National Capital Region - Bureau of Fire Protection, there are many causes of fire besides faulty electrical wirings.
"Tinitignan natin kung may intentional, may arson bang situation ito,” Diaz said.
The fire was declared under control at 6:26 a.m., while fire out was at 7:32 a.m.
Aside from leaving about 1,600 families homeless, the fire gutted an estimated P50 million worth of property damages. —Erwin Colcol/KG, GMA News
