Makati announces traffic rerouting in Manila South Cemetery for Undas
Makati City will implement a traffic rerouting scheme starting midnight of October 31 until November 2 to ease traffic flow within the vicinity of the Manila South Cemetery for All Saints' Day.
In a statement, the following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic:
- Kalayaan Avenue – from Zapote Street to N. Garcia St.;
- South Avenue – from Metropolitan to JP Rizal;
- Vito Cruz – from South Avenue to Zapote St.; and
- Pililia St. – from JP Rizal to Kalayaan Avenue.
Two-way traffic is implemented at:
- J.P. Rizal – from Pasong Tirad to Makati Avenue; and
- Kalayaan Avenue – from Pasong Tirad to Zapote Street.
One-way traffic is effective in:
- Kalayaan Avenue from N. Garcia to Makati Avenue; and
- Metropolitan Avenue from South Avenue to N. Garcia.
The Manila South Cemetery is on South Avenue in Makati City.
The city government advised motorists to expect heavy traffic and take alternate routes and avoid the South Cemetery area.
The number coding scheme is also suspended in Makati City from October 31 to November 2.
Public assistance
Meanwhile, four public assistance areas will be set up in the area with personnel from the Makati Action Center, Makati Health Department, and Makati Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
The stations will provide wheelchairs for senior citizens and free blood pressure monitoring. Medical teams will also be on standby.
The Makati Police will screen visitors for prohibited items such as firearms, bladed weapons, liquor bottles, and loudspeakers and amplifiers.
Designated parking areas have been allotted for motor vehicles and motorcycles along Ayala Avenue Extension and Metropolitan Avenue. —Joseph Tristan Roxas/KG, GMA News
