Over 100 cadavers in QC funeral home to be buried at Novaliches Public Cemetery

The Quezon City Health Office started gathering more than 100 cadavers piled up at the Henry Funeral Homes on Wednesday for burial in a mass grave at the Novaliches Public Cemetery, a report from Chino Gaston on GMA News TV's Balitanghali said.

In the report, QC Health Officer Dr. Verdades Linga said most of the cadavers were difficult to identify because of advanced stages of decomposition, aside from the absence of labels and death certificates.

The city health office also learned that the funeral home, located in Barangay Paang Bundok near La Loma, was earlier ordered for closure on September 23.

Moreover, the report said other funeral homes jobbed out the embalming on some of their cadavers at Henry Funeral Homes, a clear violation of the law according to the city health office.

The QC Health Office informed the funeral homes that some of the cadavers may be included in the bodies to be buried at the Novaliches Public Cemetery.

Other cadavers were also found to be the subject of dissection or medical practice, although it is unclear what schools the bodies came from due to lack of documents.

City health workers are still investigating why more than 100 cadavers piled up at Henry Funeral Homes since the operator has yet to coordinate with authorities.

Meanwhile, the city health office disinfected the site of the funeral home, while none claimed to be the relatives of the cadavers.

The QC government ordered the closure of Henry Funeral Homes on Tuesday for violating the provisions of the sanitation code.

The mass burial was earlier announced to be at the Bagbag Public Cemetery but was moved to the Novaliches Public Cemetery due to lack of space.  — Joseph Tristan Roxas/RSJ, GMA News
