Police seize suspected shabu concealed in Champorado pack

Three individuals were arrested by personnel of the Muntinlupa City Station Anti-illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group for allegedly attempting to send illegal drugs concealed inside instant Champorado packets through a courier service to Davao del Norte, GMA's Tricia Zafra reported on "Unang Balita."

The police received a call from an employee of a courier service company in Muntinlupa City on Monday morning, after four sachets of suspected shabu among grocery items.

A search resulted to the discovery of two packets of instant Champorado containing two sachets each of suspected shabu.

The shipper, Sally Gonowon, was arrested. But she said that a neighbor, who she identified as Abie Bautista Escamos also known asn "Nognog," had asked her to send the package.

Gonowon said she did not know that concealed inside the packages were sachets of shabu. She agreed to do the errand in exchange for P200.

Gonowon said this was not the first time that she agreed to do an errand for "Nognog." The last time she was also paid P200 to send food to the Davao Penal Colony, but illegal drugs were not found inside the package.

Gonowon's husband Ronnie Sumbilon and the underaged nephew of "Nognog" were also arrested.

The police are preparing cases based on violation of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act against the three suspects.

Authorities warned the public against agreeing to send items for other people.

"Sa mga kababayan daw natin, tingnan munang mabuti kung may ipinapakisuyo na shipment para makaiwas sa ganitong sitwasyon. Sa mga courier service na suriing mabuti ang mga dumadaan sa kanilang packages," said PO2 Rommel Turingan. — BAP, GMA News
