Vehicles started piling up on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on Tuesday morning as a portion of the highway was closed due to a medical mission by religious group Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC).

Bumper-to-bumper traffic is seen in front of the Iglesia ni Cristo Church along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on Tuesday, May 17, 2016. A portion of the thoroughfare from Sandiganbayan to Litex is closed for the whole day due to a medical mission by the INC. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes going to Fairview and vice versa. Roy Lozano

The INC started setting up tents along the said main road from Sandiganbayan to Litex late Monday evening.

Some commuters decided to walk along the road after having a hard time hailing public utility vehicles.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority deployed traffic enforcers to manage the rerouting of the vehicles passing by the area.

The MMDA announced that all vehicles traveling to Fairview will have to take a right turn at the Sandiganbayan and exit at Litex.

All public transportation will be given two lanes to establish a counterflow so they can pick up and drop off commuters along Commonwealth Avenue-Sandigan towards Litex Road.

The rerouting will take effect from midnight of May 17 up to midnight of May 18.

The INC medical mission will provide free services including medical and dental check up, blood and urine examination, pregnancy test, ultrasound, chest X-Ray, ECG, and circumcision.
