Grace Poe plans to double, if not triple, govt assistance to Manila

Sen. Grace Poe on Tuesday promised to double, if not triple, the government assistance to Manila if she becomes president. 

"Kung ako ay magiging pangulo, dodoblehin ko ang tulong sa Maynila. Triplehin natin kung kailangan sapagkat ito ang 'melting pot' ng buing bansa," Poe said during the birthday celebration of her godfather, actor and Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, a close friend of her late father, actor Fernando Poe Jr.

Poe said the most expensive land in the country houses the most poverty-stricken families.

She said the government needs to play a bigger role to address the disparity not only in Manila, but throughout the country. 

"Ang presensya ng gobyerno ay mas nararapat na nandito. Gawin naman natin, at papunta na rin doon, na premiyadong siyudad ang Maynila sapagkat ito rin talaga ang nagdadala ng pangalan ng ating bansa," Poe said. — VVP, GMA News
