Driver hurt as jeep rams Commonwealth Avenue center island
A jeepney driver was seriously hurt after the jeep he was driving rammed the center island of Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on Friday night.
Renante Beringuela was thrown off his jeep. He was apparently clueless about what happened as he lay inside the ambulance that took him to the East Avenue Medical Center.
"Anong nangyari sa akin? (What happened to me)" Beringuela asked the paramedic.
"Sir naaksidente po kayo ... nalaglag po kayo (You got into an accident, you fell off)," the paramedic replied.
A barangay volunteer who was among those who came to Berenguela's aid said the driver reeked of alcohol. A paramedic who attended to the victim confirmed the volunteer's account.
"Positive breath po, Ma'm," the paramedic from Quezon City's Department of Public Order and Safety told GMA News reporter Athena Imperial.
The jeep had no passengers.
Witnesses said prior to the accident, the jeep sideswiped a motorcycle, injuring its passenger, and grazed a taxi.
Authorities said Berenguela would be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property and physical injuries.
He also stands to be charged with violating the law against drunk driving and may lose his driving license on top of a fine of P80,000 and a three-month imprisonment. — APG, GMA News
