Lavish gang headquarters in New Bilibid Prison demolished
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Thursday demolished the prison cell of the Batang Cebu Gang in the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
A report by Bam Alegre aired on News To Go said that the operation, the 20th of the Oplan Galugad initiative, aims to destroy lavish dormitories of prisoners.
Nine prisoners were formerly held in the Batang Cebu Gang's cell, the report said.
The bureau had previously demolished the cells of gangs Batang City Jail and Batman Brotherhood.
A raid was also conducted in the headquarters of the Happy Go Lucky Gang located in Building 3 of the third quadrant of the prison.
BuCor confiscated contraband such as cellphones and headsets.
The bureau also recovered P83,000 hidden in the cell.
According to the report, fewer contraband were discovered in the cell this time around.
The NBP also gave an update on PG1 Arnel Burmoy, a jail guard who was shot Wednesday in the town proper of Muntinlupa by unidentified suspects riding in tandem.
It said that Burmoy is in stable condition and that authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack.
The shooting may have been provoked by Oplan Galugad, it added.
"Itong Oplan Galugad na ginagawa natin, 'di naman natin maaalis na may mga tao na siyempre magtatampo kahit papano," said Superintendent Richard Schwarzkopf, Jr. —Jessica Bartolome/KG, GMA News
