Speeding car hits texting pedestrian in QC road

A pedestrian who was texting while crossing the street was hit by a car in Barangay Culiat in Quezon City recently, GMA News' "24 Oras" reported on Friday.

CCTV footage showed the pedestrian fiddling with his phone as he crossed what he apparently thought was a clear road when a car came from seemingly out of nowhere, causing him to flip sideways onto the pavement.

The driver, a nurse, immediately stopped their car to attend to the victim as they waited for an emergency medical team to arrive.

The motorist shouldered the medical costs and the victim is now in stable condition.

Barangay chairman Victor Bernardo reminded both pedestrians and drivers to be aware of their surroundings at all times.

He pointed out that the motorist swerved to the wrong side of the road.

"Kung napansin natin yung video, parang parehas silang may mali eh. Yung lalaking nasagasaan may hawak na cellphone. Parang nagte-text o nagbabasa ng text," Bernardo said.

"At kung titingnan mo naman yung nakabanggang sasakyan supposedly nasa kanan siya, e bigla siyang umano sa kaliwa, kaya nabunggo niya yung tao," he added. -Andrei Medina/NB, GMA News
