La Mesa Dam on red alert; preemptive evacuation recommended

La Mesa Dam in Quezon City was placed under red alert before noon Wednesday amid heavy monsoon rain.

Plant manager Teddy Angeles recommended preemptive evacuation of residents near the dam, radio dzBB reported.

This was after the water level at the dam neared the 80-meter spilling level as of 10 a.m.

Angeles said in a radio interview that as of 10 a.m., the water level at La Mesa reached 79.58 meters, 57 cm below the 80.15-meter spilling level.

In September 2014 when La Mesa Dam released excess water, some residents near Tullahan River in Valenzuela City were preemptively evacuated.

Affected are areas near Tullahan River included:

- Quezon City: Commonwealth, San Dionisio, Tatalon, Mindanao Ave., Victoneta Ave., Macarthur Highway
- Malabon
- Navotas
