Vice Mayor Kid Peña sworn in as acting Makati mayor anew

Makati Vice Mayor Romulo "Kid" Peña Jr. was sworn in Tuesday again as officer-in-charge of the city following the serving of the second suspension order against Mayor Junjun Binay.

Peña, who first assumed the position last March, took his oath past 9 a.m.

In a text message to GMA News Online on Monday night, Peña said he was ready, but not in a hurry to sit as acting mayor after the suspension is served against Binay.

"I think they have to set an example. They should abide by the rule of law. I am not there to get his position," he said.

But a tweet by GMA News' Mark Salazar on Tuesday said Peña took his oath as acting mayor despite an advice from his lawyer to defer the rites.

Binay is facing yet another suspension order
, this time in connection with graft charges related to alleged irregularities in the construction of a building at the Makati City Science High School.

He has said he will defy anew this order, as his camp prepares the next legal action it would take to reverse the Ombudsman's decision.
