Pope Francis is due to visit the Philippines on Jan. 15 to 19. He will take part in activities in Manila and Leyte.
Next week, devotees of the Black Nazarene are expected to flock to Quiapo for the feast of their patron, whose image in Quiapo is believed to have miraculous powers.
A schedule for this year's Traslacion indicated the image of the Black Nazarene would be brought to the Luneta Grandstand where devotees can line up to kiss it.
It will be at the grandstand for an overnight vigil, then be brought back to Quiapo Church via the yearly procession around Quiapo's streets.
On Thursday, Jan. 1, some of the devotees attended a thanksgiving procession in honor of their patron.
A radio dzBB report said police estimated 8,000 to 10,000 devotees took part in the New Year's Day activity. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
