Manila to move more than 100k away from flood-prone areas


The Manila city government will move at least 100,000 people from three flood-prone areas in the city in preparation for Typhoon Ruby.
 
According to a report on GMA's “News TV Live” on Friday, around eight to ten barangays in the Baseco Compound in Tondo, Roxas Boulevard near Manila Bay and along España Boulevard.
 
Meanwhile, Tacloban City, which was hit hard by Typhoon Yolanda in November 2013, has also started to conduct a forced evacuation of some residents.
 
The move was done to keep people away from possible storm surges that could reach up to five meters high especially along the eastern seaboard of the Visayas.
 
Police and military personnel have also been deployed to the commercial district of Tacloban City to deter looting.
 
Typhoon Ruby is estimated to make landfall on Saturday evening, Dec.6, over the area between Eastern Samar and Northern Samar. — Andrei Medina/JDS, GMA News
