2,000 seek shelter in evacuation centers after Metro Manila's biggest fire in 2014
The victims of the Parola and Binondo fires that razed P6.5 million worth of properties earlier are now in evacuation centers in Manila.
According to a report on "24 Oras" aired Saturday evening, the victims of the Parola fire — considered the largest residential fire in Metro Manila in 2014 — are staying at the Delpan Sports Complex in Parola in Tondo.
At least 2,000 people are staying there now.
Meanwhile, the victims of another fire at Brgy. 286 Zone 26 in Binondo are residing just a building away in the Delpan Evacuation Center.
Three separate fires razed two areas in Manila and another in Marikina City early Saturday.
The fire at the Parola compound in Tondo razed at least 500 houses around 1:23 a.m. and is believed to have been caused by an unattended candle.
According to NCR Bureau of Fire Protection OIC Regional Director F/Sr. Supt. Sergio Soriano Jr., one still unidentified man was killed in the fire.
“Puro light materials ito at isang elemento yung malakas yung hangin kaya madali nag-spread yung apoy,” Soriano said.
The Parola fire was declared out around 7:47 a.m.
On the other hand, the Binondo fire razed 30 houses in Del Pan in Binondo around 12:07 a.m. rendering at least 70 families homeless.
Meanwhile, the fire in Brgy. Sta. Elena in Marikina City consumed ten houses and properties around 3 a.m. estimated to be worth around P200,000. — Andrei Medina/JDS, GMA News
