1 killed in 3 predawn fires in Manila, Marikina
(Updated 9:49 a.m.) At least one person was killed while several families were rendered homeless after three predawn fires hit residential areas in Manila and Marikina City on Saturday.
In Manila, a fire believed caused by a candle left unattended at a wake destroyed houses in three barangays in the Parola Compound in Tondo, radio dzBB's Roland Bola reported.
The fire started at 1:23 a.m. and spread quickly as the houses were made of light materials and bunched tightly together.
A report by dzBB's Mao dela Cruz said one person was killed in the fire.
The fire reached the general alarm as of 1:53 a.m., GMA News' Vonne Aquino tweeted.
In a later tweet, GMA News' Aquino said at least 2,500 families may have lost their homes in the Parola fire, which was put out at 7:47 a.m.
It was placed under control as of 4 a.m. Arson investigators are still determining how many houses were razed in the fire.
