San Juan police chief sacked over deadly hostage drama

The head of the San Juan City police was relieved from his post following a bloody 10-hour hostage drama on N. Domingo Street earlier this week.

Eastern Police District director Chief Superintendent Abelardo Villacorta relieved Senior Superintendent Joselito Daniel from his post on Thursday, radio dzBB's Rodil Vega reported Friday.

Superintendent Jose Rivera of the San Juan police will serve as the officer-in-charge of the station, the report said.

The report said Daniel's relief stemmed from the bloody hostage-taking that started Monday night and ended Tuesday morning with the deaths of the hostage taker, a security guard, and the hostage, a lawyer.

Initial investigation showed the guard shot himself after shooting the lawyer. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
