6 Manila cops face extortion, rape charges
Complaints have been filed with the Deputy Ombudsman against six Manila policemen over various offenses including extortion and rape.
Director Benjamin Magalong, head of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), identified the six as:
- SP04 Anthony Carpio,
- SP03 Emmanuel Bautista,
- SP01 Victor Amisola,
- P01 Jaycee Galutera,
- P01 Joseph Casimiro, and
- P01 Teodorico Arias
The six were assigned at the Manila Police District Station 6 in Sta. Ana, Manila, Magalong said on Thursday.
Magalong said the charges stemmed from the complaints of one Vincent Samson and his live-in partner who have accused the six of extortion and rape.
According to the Samson, the suspects attempted to extort money from him last May after they arrested him for alleged drug peddling. He said he was arrested and brought to a police station where the suspects asked him to pay P50,000, which was later lowered to P3,000.
Meanwhile, Samson's live-in partner said Carpio coerced her to have sex with him in exchange for Samson's release.
The suspects are now under restrictive custody of the Manila police director and are facing multiple charges including robbery-extortion, unlawful arrest and arbitrary detention, to name a few.
