3 dead as fire hits Malate area in Manila
Three people were reported killed while some P1 million in property was destroyed after a fire razed a residential-commercial area in Manila's Malate district Tuesday afternoon.
The fire, which took firefighters more than two hours to put out, also injured an 89-year-old woman, radio dzBB's Cecilia Villarosa reported.
While the report did not immediately name the fatalities, it said they were relatives.

It said the fire, which started at 3:09 p.m., was put out as of 5:56 p.m.
Also, the report said traffic in the area was snarled.
Some 10 houses, some made of light materials and others made of concrete, were razed in the fire, which reached the fifth alarm.
Firefighters also made sure the fire did not spread to a nearby five-story commercial establishment.
While it has yet to determine what caused the fire, the Manila Fire District initially estimated the damage to property at P1 million. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
