Manila South Cemetery offers free WiFi for Undas
Visitors can now enjoy posting a ‘selfie’ while they are visiting their deceased loved ones this November. This after the Manila South Cemetery, one of the largest cemeteries in Metro Manila, offered its visitors free WiFi connections from October 31 to November 3, according to a television report aired Tuesday on GMA’s “24 Oras”. The 25-hectare cemetery was also equipped with a verification center, which has a database of all those buried and the locations of the plots. “Sabhin lang nila ‘yung apelyido at may database na kami… Malaking pagbabago [ito],” said Daniel Tan, administrator at the Manila South Cemetery. Since Monday, about 150,000 people have been to the cemetery, the television report said. About 700,000 people are expected to visit the Manila South Cemetery until Friday. Meanwhile, the cemetery’s management deployed some 200 personnel to provide security. This is on top of the police units assigned to the cemetery. CCTVs (closed-circuit television) were also installed in the vicinity as an added security measure. The management likewise reminded visitors that knives, guns, sound systems, liquor and playing cards were prohibited. Meantime, the Land Transportation Office has conducted roadworthiness inspections on passenger buses on Tuesday. The LTO inspected the vehicles’ tires, signal lights, and engine. Some of the inspected vehicles did not pass muster and were not allowed to take to the road, a separate report aired at GMA’s “24 Oras” said. About 500 bus units were given special permits by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to cater to the expected high volume of passengers who will be going home to the provinces. — Rouchelle R.
