Makati: Number coding in effect despite anti-'pork' rally

Motorists with vehicles whose plate numbers end in 9 and 0 will not get a free pass from the number coding in Makati City Friday, despite an anti-pork barrel rally scheduled there for the day.

The city government said on its Twitter account the number coding for the day remains in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

"Number coding is implemented from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. No window hour," it said in response to queries from Twitter users.

Under the number coding system, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 9 and 0 are barred from major roads in Metro Manila from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays.

Earlier this week, the city government said roads around the venue of Friday's rally against the pork barrel system will be closed to traffic as early as10 a.m.

Makati Public Safety Department head Hermenegildo San Miguel said the stretch of Paseo de Roxas from the corner of Ayala Avenue to Sedeño St. will be closed to traffic starting 10 a.m. Friday.

Starting 2 p.m., both lanes of Ayala Avenue from Makati Avenue up to Herrera Street will also be closed to traffic for the people’s assembly, dubbed “Million People March @ Ayala.” — RSJ, GMA News
