Muntinlupa demolition turns violent, two cops injured

At least two policemen were injured when violence marred the demolition of houses at a residential area in Muntinlupa City on Thursday.

Police said residents of the Carmina Compound in Barangay Cupang, with the backing of members of a militant urban poor group, threw rocks at the police personnel securing the demolition team, radio dzBB reported Friday.

The injured were initially identified as SPO1 Rodel Garcia and PO1 Lizander Aquino. Both were hit by objects thrown by residents.

The report quoted the militant urban poor group Kadamay as saying at least seven residents were also injured in the confrontation.

Residents in the area had been bracing for the demolition of their homes and had vowed to resist it.

Muntinlupa City police chief Senior Superintendent Roque Vega said the demolition was to resume on Friday. — DVM, GMA News
