New NCRPO chief Garbo assumes post, to focus on kidnapping cases

As he assumed his post Saturday, the new head of the Metro Manila police, Chief Superintendent Marcelo Garbo Jr., vowed to focus on kidnap-for-ransom crimes in the metropolis. Last week, a businesswoman was abducted in Quezon City and brought to Davao City, where she was rescued and three of her abductors were killed.

Garbo took over the National Capital Region Police Office from Director Leonardo Espina over the weekend, radio dzBB reported Sunday.

Following Saturday's turnover rites in Taguig City, Garbo also said he expects NCRPO personnel to keep the streets safe on a 24/7 basis.

Philippine National Police chief Director General Alan Purisima attended the turnover ceremonies.

Before his new assignment, Garbo held key posts at the Northern Police District and the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and Narcotics Group.

Espina, meanwhile, was promoted to PNP Chief Directorial Staff. — DVM, GMA News
