Manila govt orders closure of Sta. Ana oil depot
The City of Manila has ordered the closure of Larraine’s Marketing, the operator of the oil depot in Sta Ana, Manila, where an oil spill took place over the weekend.
According to a report aired over GMA News TV’s Balitanghali on Wednesday, the company failed to comply with the Ecological Solid Waste Act and the Sanitation Code of the Philippines.
The closure order was addressed to one Ma. Theresa Enriquez, the company’s proprietress.
Last Saturday night, residents in Pandacan and Sta. Ana complained of a foul smell that turned out to be from a spill of used oil from the depot.
As of Monday morning, at least three people were brought to a hospital as they were not feeling well. They included a policeman who had difficulty breathing, a 40-year-old, and a two-month-old child. — Patricia Denise Chiu/RSJ, GMA News
