200 families lose homes in Parañaque fire


At least 200 families lost their homes in a fire that razed 100 houses in a residential area in Parañaque City Friday afternoon. No one was initially reported injured in the fire, which destroyed some P2 million in property, radio dzBB reported early Saturday. The fire at Airport Village in Parañaque started at 1:40 p.m. and reached the fourth alarm before firefighters placed it under control past 3:30 p.m. Firefighters said they had a hard time battling the blaze because of the narrow pathways in the area. An initial investigation showed the fire started at the house of a certain Grace. Arson investigators are verifying information an overheating electric fan caused the fire. On Friday, Metro Manila experienced its hottest temperature so far this year at 36.6 degrees Celsius. — DVM, GMA News
