DOLE to hold job fairs in Metro Manila for 171k tech-voc graduates

Starting March, labor officials will hold job fairs catering to 171,412 graduates of technical-vocational courses in Metro Manila.

Department of Labor and Employment Metro Manila regional head Alan Macaraya said this fair will use a "focused-hiring" approach to ensure the graduates are hired.

"We will ask all tech-voc graduates to pre-register for the job fairs," he said.

The job fairs, dubbed "Hanapbuhay para sa TESDA Specialista," will kick off on March 11 at the Quezon City Covered walk. DOLE-NCR Quezon City Field Office and the Quezon City PESO will coordinate the activity.

Organizers will also coordinate with participating employers whose needs correspond to the skills profile of tech-voc graduates who pre-register.

For the overseas component, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration will invite licensed recruitment agencies.

Macaraya also said the DOLE will tap companies registered under the Workers Hiring for Infrastructure Program (WHIP).

Job seekers will also be offered services such as employment counseling, tips on writing a winning resume and hurdling a job interview, and even free TESDA services such as hair-cutting and massage.

Also to be offered are documentation services for job seekers from the NSO, SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-Ibig, BIR, NBI and PNP.

The convergence job fairs' target employers are those in key employment generator industries, including:

  • business process outsourcing;
  • health and wellness;

The agencies behind the convergence job fairs include the DOLE Regional Coordinating Council-National Capital Region, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, POEA and the PESO Association of Metro Manila (PAMM).

"I am happy to announce that the DOLE's Regional Coordinating Council in the National Capital Region, TESDA, POEA. and the PAMM have agreed to pool their resources and expertise in facilitating the employment of the tech-voc graduates of TESDA-accredited training institutions in the metropolis through a six-day series of job fairs," Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said.
