MMDA opens bike lane, bike sharing system on EDSA

Good news for bicycle enthusiasts: they can now travel along a portion of Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), after the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority opened a bike lane there. The MMDA said the bike lane stretches along the northbound lane of EDSA between the Magallanes and Ayala areas in Makati City. In a post on its Twitter account, the MMDA said the EDSA Bike Lane and Bike Sharing System stretches from Magallanes loading bay to Ayala loading bay and vice versa. Users can present an ID with photo at the bike station, ride the bike along the bike lane, then return the bike at the station. A separate report on Unang Hirit said the 1-km bike lanes are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. It added those who wish to borrow bikes from the MMDA for the bike lanes will be issued a safety helmet along with the bike. The Unang Hirit report said the setup is ideal for commuters who can get off a bus at one end of the bike lane and ride a bike to the other end. —KG, GMA News
