LRT doubles security after suicide

A day after a suicide marred its operations, the Light Rail Transit doubled security at the stations of the LRT's Line 1 on Friday.

In Caloocan City, security personnel made sure passengers stayed away farther from the yellow lane near the edge of the tracks, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.

Security personnel also said they have become more observant of passengers, especially those who may tend to get near the tracks as a train approaches.

On Thursday, the LRT-1's operations were disrupted after a woman committing suicide jumped into the tracks at the LRT-1's EDSA station and was hit by an approaching train.

The incident forced the LRT-1 to bypass the EDSA station for hours, stranding many commuters in the process.

LRT Administration spokesman Hernando Cabrera said at least 24 suicide incidents had occurred since the LRT started operations in 1984.
