Marikina, Caloocan, Navotas, Pateros suspend classes in all levels for Wednesday


(Updated 3:41 p.m.) - With heavy rain still expected to pound Metro Manila for another day, classes in Marikina, Caloocan and Navotas Cities and the municipality of Pateros will remain suspended on Wednesday.
 
The Marikina City government said on its Twitter account before noon Tuesday the suspension will cover classes in all levels.
 
"As per Vice Mayor (Jose) Cadiz, classes in all levels in Marikina are suspended tomorrow, August 8, 2012," it said.
 
Heavy rain and floods bashed Metro Manila and neighboring provinces, prompting Malacañang to suspend classes and work on Tuesday.
 
Several residents near the Marikina River were forcibly evacuated from their homes after the water level at the Marikina River rose beyond the "critical" 18 meters.
 
As of Tuesday noon, the river's water level had already risen to 20.1 meters, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.
 
Many schools, along with gymnasiums and chapels, were also used as evacuation centers.
 
On the other hand, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the heavy rain may persist until Wednesday. Caloocan
In Caloocan City, meanwhile, Mayor Enrico Echieverri said classes in public and private schools in Caloocan City in all levels would be suspended Wednesday.
 
“This early I am announcing lahat na public schools sa Caloocan isasama ko na private schools,” he said in an interview on dzBB radio.
 
A separate report by dzBB’s Glen Juego said the suspension applies up to the college level. Navotas
In Navotas City, Mayor John Rey Tiangco ordered classes suspended Wednesday in all levels, in both public and private schools.
 
"NO CLASSES (all levels, public and private) in Navotas City tomorrow, Aug. 8," read a tweet from the city government.  Pateros In an interview with GMA News Online, Pateros Mayor Joey Medina said that classes for all levels — from primary, secondary to tertiary — have been cancelled for August 8, owing to continuous inclement weather. – with Patricia Denise Chiu/KG/RSJ, GMA News
