Floods prompt Makati to lift number coding

Makati City lifted effective 4 p.m. Tuesday the number coding on its streets to allow employees to go home early in the wake of heavy rain and floods that hit Metro Manila.

"Number coding is already lifted," it said on its Twitter account.

In contrast, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority did not lift the number coding for the day.

Under the number coding scheme, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 3 and 4 are barred from Metro Manila's main thoroughfares from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard remained on alert to conduct rescue operations in flood-hit areas if needed.

Coast Guard commandant Vice Admiral Edmund Tan ordered his personnel to remain on alert anytime, radio dzBB's Cecilia Villarosa reported.
