2 killed in Makati encounter after alleged rob try

Two suspected motorcycle-riding robbers were shot dead in an encounter with police following an alleged robbery attempt in Makati City Sunday night, a radio report said.

Police said the two had targeted a delivery van of a courier service firm along South Superhighway in Bangkal village, radio dzBB reported early Monday.

A report by dzBB's Sam Nielsen said police initially described one of the suspects as a motorcycle mechanic.

Recovered from him was a 9-mm pistol.

The second suspect was described as having links to a fire volunteer group, but was not named in the report upon the request of the police.

Recovered from the second suspect was a cal-.40 handgun.

An initial investigation showed the motorcycle-riding suspects allegedly tried to intercept the van, but the van driver hit their motorcycle.

The commotion attracted the attention of a nearby police team, which tried to block the path of the motorcycle-riding suspects.

But  the suspects allegedly fired at them, prompting the police personnel to fire back.
