Alleged killer of Leyte town official nabbed 'after years of hiding' — NBI

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has arrested an individual who allegedly shot to death a municipal administrator in San Isidro, Leyte in May 2019.

In a statement Friday, the NBI said the arrested male was wanted for the death of Municipal Administrator Levi Mabini at Barangay Capiñahan, San Isidro on May 8, 2019.

According to a 2019 report on State of the Nation, Mabini had just arrived at the house of then-mayor Susan Ang when he was shot. He was aboard a motorcycle when he was killed. Three others were injured in the attack.

The incident came less than a week before the 2019 general elections, wherein Ang lost by just one vote.

The NBI said the case was later transferred to the Quezon City Regional Trial Court-Branch 5, which issued an arrest warrant against the alleged perpetrator.

Following this, the NBI-Eastern Visayas Regional Office (EVRO) conducted a manhunt operation and determined his whereabouts. They arrested him at Barangay Linao, San Isidro.

"Operatives of NBI-EVRO successfully arrested the Subject after years of hiding," the NBI said in a statement.

The NBI said the alleged gunman was then brought to the NBI-EVRO for standard booking procedures. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
