Zelenskyy says Ukraine to open embassy in PH

Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy on Monday said Ukraine would open an embassy in the Philippines this year.

Zelenskyy made the remark during his meeting with President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. at Malacañang Palace.

''This year we will open embassy in Manila,'' Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian leader, who arrived in the Philippines on Sunday night, also thanked Marcos for the Philippine government's support amid Ukraine's ongoing armed conflict with Russia.

Zelenskyy earlier expressed intention of deepening the cooperation with the Philippines in particular international platforms.

To recall, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February, 24, 2022, in what its President Vladimir Putin claimed was a "special military operation" to "de-Nazify" the country.

Russia's war in Ukraine has resulted in a terrible human cost, inflicting huge suffering on millions, according to the United Nations.

The diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Ukraine was established on April 7, 1992. The two countries actively interact within the framework of international organizations, in particular the United Nations.  —KBK, GMA Integrated News
