Romualdez on Sara impeachment talks: 'Nothing in the offing'

LOS ANGELES, USA - "Nothing in the offing."

This was the response of House Speaker Martin Romualdez when asked about the supposed impeachment talks against Vice President Sara Duterte.

He added, "Nothing filed, no news of that."

Romualdez also said he does not know where this information came from.

"I don't know, I don't know your sources but there's nothing in the offing, nothing in general," the Speaker said.

Deputy Minority Leader and ACT Teachers party-list lawmaker France Castro said in a television interview that certain leaders of political parties in the House are talking about possibly impeaching the Vice President.

She later clarified that such supposed talks on impeachment “are mere discussions of some congressmen and not a serious move against Vice-President Sara Duterte."

Early this month, Romualdez said he expects the relationship between the House of Representatives and Duterte to improve following the latter's decision to let go of the P500 million confidential fund under the proposed 2024 national budget.

"As they always say, there will always be differences but we will always work towards resolving those differences for the service of the Filipino people, that’s our primordial concern," Romualdez said.

Asked if he expects the working relationship between the House and OVP will smoothen out, the Speaker replied "I'm always...very, very hopeful." —VAL, GMA Integrated News
