Pinoy welfare officer found dead in KL apartment

A Filipino social welfare officer in Malaysia was found dead in his apartment in Kuala Lumpur, two days after failing to report for work. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) cited a report from the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur identifying the social welfare officer as Finardo Cabilao. "The Embassy stated that Mr. Cabilao failed to report to work for two straight days, prompting Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Victoriano Lecaros to dispatch today the Embassy’s administrative officer to his residence and check on his condition," the DFA said in its website. It said the administrative officer and other staff members found Cabilao dead in his apartment. The DFA did not say if there were signs of foul play. Embassy officials immediately reported the incident to the DFA, the local police authorities, and the Malaysian Foreign Ministry. Malaysian police authorities are now investigating the incident, the DFA said. The DFA added that the family has been notified about Cabilao's death. "The Philippine Embassy, DFA, DSWD and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration will extend full assistance to the family," the DFA said. Following the incident, the DFA said Lecaros has instructed Embassy staff members to take security and safety measures. - GMANews.TV
