For over four hundred years, the Catholic faithful in Wendell’s hometown had converged at the Palo Metropolitan Cathedral for worship.
Even structures as mighty as this centuries-old church, however, succumbed to Yolanda’s furious winds.
The roof was torn off. The altar, crushed. The chandelier, shattered.
At a time when their faith was being tested, the church’s flock received its much needed spiritual guidance.
Father Martin Cubi and other priests celebrated mass inside the Palo Metropolitan Cathedral, giving messages of hope and devotion just two days after Yolanda ravaged Leyte.
With the church now partially restored, Father Martin said that the Palo Metropolitan Cathedral is a reflection of the townsfolk’s unwavering faith.
