NU overcomes La Salle to remain undefeated; FEU beats UST in UAAP women's volleyball

National University overcame a second set hiccup to beat De La Salle University, 25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18, on Sunday in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Bella Belen had 23 points from 17 attacks, four blocks, and two aces, on top of 17 excellent receptions, while Alyssa Solomon added 19 points as the Lady Bulldogs remained unbeaten in eight games.

"Hindi naging madali 'yung laban namin. Talagang nahirapan din kami against La Salle kasi may sistema rin sila. At the same time, may sistema rin kami. 'Yung game naman, ine-expect din namin na magiging mahirap siya compared sa first round. Kami naman, kailangan lang namin maipanalo yung game, straight sets man or hindi, kailangan namin manalo,” Belen said.

Shevana Laput had 19 points, while Angel Canino added 15 points as the Lady Spikers slipped to 5-3.

Earlier, Far Eastern University defeated the University of Santo Tomas, 25-22, 26-24, 17-25, 26-24.

Faida Bakanke led the Lady Tamaraws with 22 points, while Gerz Petallo and Jaz Ellarina had 12 points each as the Morayta-based squad improved to 5-3.

Reg Jurado had 20 points, while Maribeth Hilongo had 17 points for the Golden Tigresses who slipped to 5-3.
