Ateneo sweeps UP in UAAP men's volleyball second round opener

Ateneo de Manila University opened its second round campaign in the UAAP Season 87 men's volleyball tournament with a sweep of the University of the Philippines, 25-16, 25-18, 25-21, on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Amil Pacinio had 17 points from 12 attacks, three aces, and two blocks to lead the Blue Eagles, while stats race leader Kennedy Batas had 14 points.
Daniel Nicolas and Tommy Castrodes, meanwhile, had 10 points apiece for the Fighting Maroons.
"Itong second round, mababago lahat kasi nagmeet na nung first round, ito na yung time para sa basahan talaga ng laro," said Ateneo head coach Vince Mangulabnan.
Ateneo improved to 5-3, while UP slipped to 2-6.
Earlier, Adamson University outlasted University of the East, 25-21, 23-25, 20-25, 25-17, 15-12.
Mark Leo Coguimbal had 17 points, while Jude Aguilar and Marc Kenneth Paulino had 15 points apiece as the Soaring Falcons improved to 2-6.
The win spoiled Axel Defeo's 22-point outing as UE remained winless in eight games.
