ZUS Coffee stuns Petro Gazz; Alyssa Valdez powers Creamline past Chery Tiggo in PVL QF

ZUS Coffee pulled off an upset against Petro Gazz, 25-21, 25-23, 27-25, on Tuesday in Game 1 of the PVL All-Filipino Conference quarterfinals at the Philsports Arena to inch closer to a semis slot.
Five Thunderbelles scored in double digits with Chai Troncoso leading the squad with 14 points from nine attacks, four blocks, and an ace on top of nine excellent digs and 16 excellent receptions.
Thea Gagate and Jov Gonzaga chipped in 11 points apiece, while Mich Gamit and Chinnie Arroyo added 10 points each in the squeaker.
Brooke Van Sickle, meanwhile, had 18 points to lead the Angels.
Earlier, Alyssa Valdez flashed her vintage form to lead Creamline past Chery Tiggo, 25-10, 27-25, 25-21.
Valdez had 16 points, all from attacks, along with 13 excellent digs and nine excellent receptions to lead the Cool Smashers in inching closer to another trip to the semis. Tots Carlos added 13 points, while Bea de Leon and Pangs Panaga had 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The win was also marked Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses' 100th victory in the PVL.
"I’m grateful for my players, who continue to follow our system and communicate for the betterment of the team. Thanks also to the management – winning has always been Creamline’s goal," Meneses said in Filipino.
Shaya Adorador, meanwhile, led the Crossovers with 10 points.
The quarterfinals will continue on Thursday with the Choco Mucho and Akari hoping to book semis slots outright as they take on PLDT and Galeries, respectively.
