FEU outlasts Ateneo in five-setter; La Salle bounces back at UP's expense in UAAP women's volleyball

Far Eastern University outlasted Ateneo de Manila University, 25-15, 25-20, 25-17, 26-26, 15-11, on Sunday in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Gerzel Petallo led the Lady Tamaraws with 18 points anchored on 14 attacks, while Faida Bakanke added 15 points as FEU improved to 2-2.
Lyann De Guzman's 23-point outing, however, went to naught as Ateneo slipped to 1-3.
Earlier, De La Salle University returned to the win column at the expense of the University of the Philippines, 25-22, 24-26, 25-18, 25-17.
Coming off a five-set loss to the University of Santo Tomas, the Lady Spikers improved to 2-2.
“Kahit po galing kami sa talo at ‘yung standing namin parang on edge rin, ‘yung mindset talaga namin is one game at a time and every game naman ibang preparation ‘yun. Ang maganda lang ngayon nagkakaroon na rin kami ng kumpyansa as a team and sa sarili so sana madala namin every game,” said DLSU captain Angel Canino.
Canino had 24 points from 20 attacks and four blocks, while Shevana Laput added 21 points for the Taft-based squad.
Irah Jaboneta led UP with 15 points, while Joan Monares added 11 points as UP slipped to 2-2.
In the men's division, La Salle also defeated UP, 23-25, 25-13, 26-24, 25-15, while FEU won against Ateneo, 25-23, 32-30, 23-25, 25-15.
