PVL: Chery Tiggo stains PLDT's perfect record after four-set escape

PVL volleyball: Chery Tiggo Crossovers

Chery Tiggo overcame a third set hiccup, pulling off a thrilling 25-12, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22 victory against erstwhile undefeated PLDT in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Crossovers, who were looking to build some momentum after sweeping Nxled last Tuesday, improved to 3-1 as the High Speed Hitters fell to a similar 3-1 record after winning their first three outings.

PLDT proved its three straight wins over Nxled, Galeries, and Capital1 were no fluke, staging a third set fight back by unleashing a 4-0 run that allowed the wards of coach Rald Ricafort to take a 20-17 lead.

Net defense then came out pivotal for PLDT, but it was offense that got them the set win as Savi Davison knocked down back-to-back hits for a 25-20 decision and dragged Chery Tiggo to a fourth set.

Davison continued to pour in points for PLDT in the fourth, even forcing a 20-all deadlock before Chery Tiggo answered with three consecutive points capped by a net error from Erika Santos.

Davison went for a down-the-line hammer before her own service error saw Chery Tiggo cruising to the match point at 24-21. Shaya Adorado then put the finishing kick, going through the double block of Dell Palomata and Santos off the set-up from Alina Bicar.

Cess Robles led the way for the Crossovers with 17 point anchored on 14 attacks and three aces while Ara Galang and Adorador chipped in 13 and 11 markers apiece with the latter also grabbing six excellent receptions.

The PLDT loss spoiled the 27-point outing from Davison, who also had 12 receptions to finish with a double-double performance.
