Savi Davison leads third set comeback as PLDT keeps Galeries winless
Savi Davison came alive when it mattered most, helping PLDT stage a third set comeback to turn back Galeries Tower, 27-25, 25-22, 25-23, and grab a share of lead in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the Ynares Center Antipolo.
The High Speed Hitters, who crawled back from six points down in the third frame, improved to 2-0 and forged a two-way tie at the top with Akari while the Highrisers fell to a 0-3 card.
"Hindi dapat umabot sa gano'n na hahabol kami nang malaki kung maganda na 'yung start namin. Ang reminder ko lang is hindi porke may 2-0 na ay maging complacent na," PLDT coach Rald Ricafort said.
[It shouldn't have come to that - that we should come from behind - if we had a good start. My reminder is let's not become complacent just because we're 2-0.]
Enjoying a 2-0 lead in sets, PLDT momentarily lost steam in the third as Galeries established a comfortable 21-15 lead before the High Speed Hitters unleashed a 10-2 closing run.
Davison converted back-to-back attacks that sent them to a 22-21 lead before a miscommunication on the part of Galeries saw PLDT cruising to the match point at 24-22.
France Ronquillo answered with a cross court kill from the right wing to give Galeries some signs of life. But Davison soared for the rejection on the dump attempt from Ysa Jimenez as PLDT completed the sweep victory.
Davison finished with 28 points all on 26 attacks and two blocks alongside six digs while Erika Santos chipped in 14 markers built on 12 attacks, one block, and one ace.
Ronquillo ended up with a team-high 19 points while Jho Maraguinot shone with 10 markers.
