Petro Gazz, Akari notch wins in PVL season opener


The Petro Gazz Angels and Akari Chargers notched wins in the opener of the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Brooke Van Sickle led the Angels past Choco Mucho, 25-20, 26-28, 25-21, 25-16.

Van Sickle exploded for 34 points anchored on 28 attacks, four aces, and two blocks in the opening night.

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Jonah Sabete had 18 points apiece for Petro Gazz, while Sisi Rondina led the Flying Titans with 18 points as she made her return from Alas Pilipinas duties.

Earlier, the Akari Chargers overcame a first set hiccup against Galeries, 28-30, 25-15, 25-16, 25-23.

Eli Soyud had 21 points for Akari, while Grethcel Soltones, Ivy Lacsina, and returning Faith Nisperos had 16 points apiece.

Ysa Jimenez had 17 points for the High Risers.

The All-Filipino Conference will run for almost six months and is slated to end by April 2025.
