PVL unveils new All-Filipino format, restructured calendar for upcoming season

The Premier Volleyball League on Thursday announced a new All-Filipino Conference format and restructured calendar for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

The league will open its newest season on November 9 with the reformatted All-Filipino Conference running until April 2025 as it aligned with the international FIVB calendar.

Galeries and Akari will open the season, while Petro Gazz will go against Choco Mucho at the Philsports Arena.

Creamline, meanwhile, will open its title defense bid on November 16 against Petro Gazz.

The All-Filipino Conference will have its final playing day for the year on December 14 before it returns on January 18.

In the new format, after the preliminary round ends by February, the teams will be ranked according to the FIVB classification system for the qualifying round.

The teams will be paired by their rankings to determine the matches in the qualifiers and the winners of each pairing will proceed to the playoffs. The losing teams, meanwhile, will compete in the play-in tournament where teams will be ranked again and the six clubs will be divided into two groups. Each group will play a single round with the top team of each group advancing to the playoffs.

The quarterfinals, set for March 2025, will see each pairing in a best-of-three series, while the semifinals will be a round robin.

The championship, meanwhile, will be a best-of-three affair.

Meanwhile, as teams prepare ahead of the season, the Farm Fresh Foxies named Benson Bocboc as its interim head coach. The development was also announced on Thursday.
