Alas Pilipinas escapes Indonesia, cops SEA V.League bronze

Alas Pilipinas Women salvaged a bronze medal finish after eking out a 25-23, 15-25, 25-23, 25-21 win against Indonesia to cap off its first leg run in the 2024 SEA V.League on Sunday  at the Vinh Phuc Hall in Vietnam.

Alyssa Solomon shone with a team-high 16 points anchored on 14 attacks, one block, and one ace as the wards of head coach Jorge de Brito finished third in the four-team field while the Indonesians wound up fourth after a winless campaign.

The win allowed the Philippines to capture its first leg podium finish in the regional tournament since 2019, where the Philippines emerged with back-to-back bronze medal outputs. They also ended their first leg bid on a high note following two consecutive losses to Thailand and Vietnam.

Also helping the cause are Sisi Rondina and Eya Laure, both of whom poured in 13 points, while middle blocker Thea Gagate chipped in 10 markers in the four-set triumph.

Arsela Nuari Purnama showed the way for the Indonesians, churning out 22 points from 19 attacks, two aces, and one block.

Powerhouse Thailand and host Vietnam will dispute the gold medal.
