Germany outlasts Japan in five-setter to open Olympic volleyball

Germany outlasted Japan in a five-setter, 25-17, 23-25, 20-25, 30-28, 15-12, to open the men's volleyball tournament of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Saturday.

György Grozer posted 24 points from 15 attacks, five blocks, and four aces to lead Japan in the win.

Yuki Ishikawa had 22 points, while Yuji Nishida added 20 points for Japan. Ran Takahashi returned just in time for the Paris Games and had 15 points.

Meanwhile, Italy defeated Brazil, 25-23, 27-25, 18-25, 25-21, in the following game.
