PVL: Petro Gazz import Wilma Salas dedicates campaign to late Janisa Johnson

Petro Gazz Angels reinforcement Wilma Salas said she is dedicating her campaign in the PVL Reinforced Conference to the late import Janisa Johnson.

Johnson, who also played for Petro Gazz, passed away last June at the age of 32.

“I am sad because of Janisa’s passing. I came to dedicate this conference to her, so every point, every decision we make on the team, we can think about Janisa,” said Salas after their opening game.

Johnson saw action in the PVL back in the 2019 Reinforced Conference, where she steered the Petro Gazz Angels to the title against then reigning champion Creamline.

The Angels also dedicate their campaign to Johnson as they put on their jerseys a number 10 with wings on the side to honor the late import.

Earlier, the Angels swept ZUS Coffee, 25-16, 25-21, 25-21.

Brooke Van Sickle had 22 points for Petro Gazz, while Salas added 15 points.

Thea Gagate has yet to suit up for the Thunderbelles due to Alas duties but import Asaka Tamaru had 17 points in the loss.
